List of Ohio State Parks Adams Lake State Park this 95-acre park, wedged between the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and the glaciated land to the north and west, no other area of Ohio boasts a richer abundance of plant species. Adams Lake State Park region was once inhabited by prehistoric and mound building cultures, most notably the Adenas and Hopewell. Internationally renown Serpent Mound, the hallmark of the Adena culture (1000 B.C.-100 A.D.) can be found north of the park near Locust Grove. Adams Lake State Park is located near West Union, Ohio. Alum Creek State Park, 9.5 miles of hiking trails, 38 miles of horseback riding trails wind along the lakeshore, two mountain bike trails totalling 14.5 miles and Alum Creek Reservoir contains 3,387 acres of water offering fine catches of bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye and saugeye. The Adena culture lived here over 2,000 years ago. Seven mounds constructed by the mound builders were identified along the creek. Alum Creek State Park is located a short distance from Delaware, OH. AW Marion State Park is diverse with woodlands, plains and prairie. AW Marion State Park area is said to contain the richest land in Ohio, and can attribute its natural wonders to glaciation that occurred more than 12,000 years ago.The Adena culture were among the first to settle the area 2,000 years ago. A.W. Marion State Park is located in Circleville, OH. Barkcamp State Park lies in the heart of the coal-mining region of Ohio and is part of the Appalachian highlands. The 1200 acre park has 24 miles of bridle trails through rugged hills. There are miles of hiking trails consisting of the Lakeview Trail, Woodchuck Nature Trail, Hawthorn Trail, Hawk Trail and there is a special paved trail that winds through a pioneer village. Barkcamp State Park is located in Belmont, OH. Beaver Creek State Park in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with 23 miles of horseback riding trails and 16 miles of hiking trails that take the visitor to historic canal locks and through a steep walled gorge. Hikers will find several beautiful waterfalls. Beaver Creek State Park is located in East Liverpool, OH, The discovery of rich clay deposits in the area of East Liverpool led to the birth of the pottery industry in the 1840s. The industry was so prosperous that the area became known as the pottery center of the United States. Blue Rock State Park Bass, Trout, Catfish and Bluegill provide sport for the fisherman in Cutler Lake, there are several miles of hiking trails, and 26 miles of bridle trails through the Blue Rock State Forest. Before this beautiful region was known to the white man, the Shawnee Nation built Old Town, the village of Chief White Eyes, near present-day Duncan Falls on the Muskingum River. Blue Rock State Park is located in Blue Rock, OH. Buck Creek State Park facilities center around the 2,120-acre lake, offering endless water-related opportunities. The spotted turtle, a state endangered animal, is found in the area, the park is an excellent area to observe waterfowl, including migrating ducks, and rare songbirds including dickcissels, bobolinks and Henslow sparrows.
